ROCKLIN, Calif. – Berika Egberuare scored a game-high 18 points but it wasn't enough as the SDC women's basketball team fell to William Jessup 57-50 Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-9 on the season and 0-6 in GSAC play. The Warriors improve to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in conference.

The Hawks couldn't have started the game any better opening up with eight straight points for an 8-0 lead. Two Egberuare 3-pointers and a Whitney Braeutigam jumper forced a timeout from the Warriors. The Hawks finished the quarter up 13-11 as the Warriors made a late charge towards the end of the first.

William Jessup tied the game just 50 seconds into the second. The two teams kept trading leads throughout the quarter until the end when the Warriors finished with a 5-0 run, giving them a five-point lead at the break. The Hawks made just two shots out of 13 shots.

Offense was very scarce in the third quarter for SDC. Their first field goal made was not until 1:57 remaining in the quarter. They converted on three free throws before Natalie Perales' jumper brought the deficit down to 13. The Warriors carried their momentum to an 18 points advantage after three quarters of play.

But the Hawks saved their best offensive performance of the game for the last quarter scoring 27 points. Perales took over in the early going of the quarter. She scored seven points to bring SDC's deficit down to 11, its lowest since the 4:19 of the third quarter. The Hawks kept their offensive prowess going as a J'ness Flowers-Murphy jumper cut the WJU lead down to five with 2:25 left.

William Jessup, however, hit their free throws to seal the deal.

The Hawks will have 10 days off before their next game. They travel to play Biola on Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
