The women's tennis team earned the higher GPA of the two teams at 3.67. Heather Borsos led the team with a 4.0 GPA followed by Aleksandra Emelianova (3.65), Miriam Boeta (3.52) and Nataliya Yamkova (3.78)

The men's team had some individuals who were honored with ITA Scholar-Athlete. Senior Michael Rjazanov led with a 3.93 GPA. Alessandro Moriano was next with a 3.8 and Jan-Erik Isermann.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

Aguilar was named National ITA Player to Watch and Emelianova was named National ITA Rookie of the Year. Both were honored regional for the awards before winning the national spotlight.

"Aguilar made an immediate impact to the men's team playing No. 1 singles and doubles this year," Head Coach Priscilla Jensen said. "He was named the teams Most Valuable Player and helped guide the team to its first GSAC title in the program's 2-year history."

He ranked No. 1 in the West Region in singles and doubles, and ranked nationally at No. 11 in singles and No. 4 in doubles. He has been honored as an NAIA First Team All-American, All-Conference, GSAC Conference Player of the Year, and won the Ojai Tennis Tournament title in 2015.

Playing the No. 1 singles and doubles positions, Emelianova has worked her way to a No. 5 regional ranking in singles, No. 8 regional ranking in doubles and No. 19 national ranking in singles.

"Emelianova has made an immediate impact to SDC's team as a freshman," Jensen said. "Not only on the court, but also as a teammate getting adjusted so quickly entering in the Spring 2016 as an international student-athlete. She's doing so well academically and adapting to her new environment. She also is our Most Improved Player who made tremendous progress in her confidence earning All-Conference her first year."

Men's Singles:

Michael Rjazanov defeated Travis Kimsey from Westmont 6-4, 6-4 to get to the semifinals. Before that match, he defeated Joe Turnquist of Biola in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Daniel Superlano went 2-0 in singles matches Friday. He beat No. 3 overall Santiago Galeffi from Arizona Christian 6-3, 6-1 before topping Westmont's Christian Mathis 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. Him and Rjazanov will face off against each other, winner getting to the finals.

Alessandro Moriano beat Hope International's Maruicio7-5, 6-4 in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals he defeated Seth Moore from Arizona Christian 6-3, 6-1 to get into the other half of the bracket in the semis.

Jan-Erik Isermann beat Tyler Cawthorne 6-5, 7-5 before falling to No. 1 overall Carl-Philip Lindqvist 6-1, 6-0. Moriano will face Lindqvist in the other semifinal match at 8 a.m.

Men's Doubles:

Moriano/Superlano defeated Galeffi/Moore, the No. 2 overall in doubles from ACU. Galeffi/Moore retired due to illness, giving Moriano/Superlano the win. Later in the day, the pair defeated Mathis/Richard Sec of Westmont 8-3 to reach the finals. They will play Lucas Lee/Luke Mountain for the championship.

Jan-Erik Isermann/Joe Rivera defeated No. 1 overall doubles Kimsey/Lindqvist 8-6 before bowing out to Lee/Mountain 8-2 in the semifinals.

Women's Singles:

Brooke Ferslov-Jensen lost to No. 1 overall Luaren Stratman 6-2, 6-1 of Westmont after beating Susan Carmichael from Biola 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16.

Nataliya Yamkova was defeated by Tia Okano of ACU in the Round of 16 6-0, 6-2.

Heather Borsos was defeated by No. 4 overall Kathryn Ashford from Biola, 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 in the Round of 16.

Women's Doubles:

Heather Borsos/Ferslov-Jensen were defeated early in the day by No. 2 overall Isabell Lee/Stratman from Westmont 8-2.

Men's Singles – Round of 32:

Newcomer Michael Rjazanov made quick work of Hope International's Andres Rivas in the Round of 32 6-0, 6-0. He will take on Biola's Joe Turnquist in the Round of 16.

Daniel Superlano defeated Biola's Michael Vartuli 6-0, 6-2. His next opponent will be Santiago Galeffi from ACU.

Fourth-overall seed, Alessandro Moriano knocked off Arizona Christian's Michael Munguia 6-4, 6-0. Moriano will play Maruicio Mosquera from Hope International in the Round of 16.

Jan-Erik Isermann also defeated a GSAC opponent as he won 6-3, 6-3 over Biola's Luke Mountain. He will play Tyler Cawthorne of Arizona Christian.

Men's Doubles – Round of 16:

Moriano/Superlano defeated Hope Internationals Rivas/Maiolo 8-1. The pair will go up against No. 2 overall Galeffi/Moore from ACU.

Isermann/Joey Rivera defeated Castano/Froelich of ACU 8-4 and will play No. 1 overall Travis Kimsey/Carl Lindqvist of Westmont.

Women's Singles – Round of 32:

Heather Borsos defeated Rafaella Zak Zak of Arizona Christian 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Borsos will play No. 4 overall Kathryn Ashford of Biola in the next round.

Nataliya Yamkova defeated Hope International's Sabrina Miller 6-4, 6-1 and will play against Tia Okano of ACU.

Brooke Ferslov-Jensen beat Gabriella Chavez of Hope International in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. She will play Susan Carmichael of Biola in the Round of 16.

Women's Doubles – Round of 16:

Borsos/Ferslov-Jensen defeated Okano/Zak Zak of Arizona Christian 8-5 and will play against No. 2 overall Isabel Lee/Lauren Stratman of Westmont College.

Miriam Boeta/Yamkova lost to Madeline Heer/Susan Carmichael 8-4 and are eliminated from the tournament.

Round 2 will start at 8 a.m. for singles and 2 p.m. for doubles on Friday.

Aguilar was unbeaten in six matches this week (6-0), as he picked up wins in three singles and three doubles competitions from March 24-28.The sophomore allowed no more than two sets in any of his singles matches, and four sets was his highest total allowed in doubles play (an 8-4 score against Arizona Christian on March 24). In singles competition, Aguilar swept Arizona Christian (6-0, 6-0) and beat NCAA Division III Whitworth (Wash.) 6-1, 6-0.

Brendan currently ranks No. 12 in the nation in singles players and is No. 7 in the nation in Doubles with Leonardo Urquidi. 

The No. 16 Hawks will face off against No. 10 Westmont College in their next match on Tuesday.
